There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is illegal. Eight gambling dens are situated in a relatively tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and although visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship casino, contains 150 slot machine games and sixty tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that contains numerous amenities aside from the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight table games.
